It is so important to capture memories. Not just of your loved ones but, also of yourself along the way. If you were wondering why I have rectangles and squares on my logo, this is why. They remind me to make sure I am in the photos once in a while. Though I never met her, I learned this valuable lesson from my grandmother.
When I was young, I remember going to my granddad’s house and looking up on his wall at a black and white photo of my grandmother. In fact, it was this photo of her in this post. She was dressed in black with a band of pearls around her neck. There are only a handful of images I’ve found of her because she was always the one taking the photos. Each one of the images of her is precious to my family as they are the lasting reminders of her. I never met my grandmother, but I often look at her kind eyes and imagine what she was like.
As a young mother, I assessed my own assortment of images, and I realized there were very few of me in the shots because I was always the one behind the camera. I realized the importance of an image. It’s capturing a memory. So, when you look at my logo, remember to take a moment to step in front of the camera once in a while.
My nana often told me, “Well behaved women seldom make history.” This quote from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich was her motto and I have made it mine. To do this right, you have to know why its important to capture memories.
